Five Questions to Ask Before Renting a Car

Most rental disputes come down to five things nobody asked about at pickup: the fuel policy, the kilometre cap, what counts as damage on the inspection sheet, whether the deposit is refundable same-day, and who is liable if the car breaks down through no fault of yours.

Ask for the inspection sheet before you drive off, not after. Photograph the car from all four corners plus the dashboard odometer reading. Keep those photos until the deposit clears.

A rental that looks cheaper on the search page can end up costing more once you add per-kilometre overage charges. Always ask for the all-in price for your actual trip length, not just the daily headline rate.
